Fernie & Panorama 2009

Fernie: January 31st - February 7th
Panorama: February 7th - 14th
2 centre January 31st - Feb 14th

All Terrain Course with Catski and Heliski options

A chance to ski two great Canadian ski resorts in British Columbia. A fabulous 2 centre trip combining an All Terrain ski course with catski and heliski options.

Fernie
January 31st - February 7th
Voted The North American "Resort of the Year" by the Good Skiing & Snowboarding Guide 2004.

Unique to Snoworks, an All Terrain Course in the legendary Canadian resort of Fernie. With annual snowfalls of over 29 feet this is not a resort to be missed. The mountain is split into 5 bowls; Siberia, Timber, Currie, Lizard and Cedar Bowl. Enough to keep even the most adventurous skier happy.

FernieCat skiing with Fernie Wilderness Adventure.

Unlike European resorts where the place is inundated with ski lifts. Fernie is has relatively few ski lifts. Less lifts but more ways down the mountain! You can choose a different descent every run and the Canadians ski everywhere, so the whole mountain is skiable. Forget sticking to marked runs. The tree lined slopes mean you have near perfect visibility even in the most heaviest snow storms.

Lower down the mountain wide open gentle runs are perfect for the less adventurous or for perfecting technique. Higher up into the bowls there are some pretty steep Double Diamonds. Concussion, Corner Pocket & High Saddle are not for the faint hearted!

Cat Skiing
...and if you still have energy for more you can try Cat Skiing with Fernie Wilderness Adventure. A full days Cat Skiing with up to 6 drops. A short drive away with not a lift in sight and if it's been snowing regularly untracked powder every run. We've opted for the Wednesday for the Catskiing option but this could change depending on the weather.

Cost is approximately £185 and will need to be booked in advanced but paid locally. Extra Catskiing can be booked if required.

Panorama
February 7th - 14th

Like Fernie, Panorama has a few lifts serving an endless variety of runs. With 120 different trails from perfectly groomed runs for developing technique to the double black diamonds that will have your pants running away in terror! There's skiing for everyone. For the more adventurous there's the 'Extreme Zone' and a short hike will take you into the award winning backcountry area called Taynton Bowl. These two areas are made from entirely double black diamonds.

Anyone for powder!

Heliskiing

If you've never been heliskiing then this is your opportunity. RK heliski is one of the best operators around. With over 900 square miles of skiable terrain in the spectacular Purcell Mountains on the edge of the legendary Bugaboos and 36 feet of annual snowfall. Wow!

Snoworks director, Phil Smith hosted a group in 2004 with RK heliski and it was simply some of the best heliskiing he has ever done.

RK heliski in action

Cost is approximately £411 and will need to be booked in advanced but paid locally. This includes 5 drops. Extra Heliskiing can be booked if required.

2 CENTRE HOLIDAY

You can combine both Fernie and Panorama and go for a 2 centre holiday for 2 weeks with both catski and heliski options. Bear in mind if you go for the 2 centre holiday there is no skiing on the middle Saturday. You will need to take the transfer bus back to Calgary airport wait for the new arrivals and then head up to Panorama.

The Course
All Terrain Courses designed to give you full advantage of the skiing on offer in both resorts. 5 half days training from Sunday to Friday with Wednesday as the option to Catski in Fernie and Heliski in Panorama.

It's 'All Terrain' so be prepared for Off Piste, Bumps, Steeps and Technical work. But you don't have to be an expert. All Terrain courses are from level 4-6. As long as your comfortable on Reds you can come.

Price £300 per week

The Instructors
The courses are headed and hosted by our own Snoworks instructor, Lee Townend. Lee teams up with resident snoworks instructor Dean Esh in Fernie. It's Deans fifth year with Snoworks and he has proven to be extremely popular. Dean is the head instructor in Fernie and trains other instructors so your getting the best combination with Lee and Dean. In Panorama we hope to be working with Drew. We worked with Drew back in 2004 when we last went to Panorama and he proved to be extremely popular. Both Dean and Drew are totally familiar with the Snoworks All Mountain philosophy.

The Accommodation
We've opted for staying in Fernie Alpine Resort and Panorama mountain village rather than the main towns further down the mountain. They are both small but the convenience is unbeatable.

Both the The Wolf's Den in Fernie and the Pine Inn in Panorama are 'ski in' positions right at the base of the mountains, just a few yards from the base of the ski lifts. Its basic accommodation but the prices are unbeatable and like most Hotels in Canada it's all meals eat out. So the price is for accommodation only - no meals.

Please note they are typical Canadian Ski Hotels. they have a lobby, ski lockers and hot tubs. but no bars or restaurants. We've gone for great value and position. There are plenty of places to wine and dine nearby.
